So this is my first ever blog post (oh the shame). Never-mind that I've been in business for almost 15 years, I realized that it's time to get my ass in gear and start blogging like a proper professional. Who knows if anyone reads this stuff or if this is just an exercise in futility, but at the very least it forces me to work on my writing skills and more importantly will hopefully boost my SEO ranking (I know I'm not supposed to admit that out loud, but come on lets be realistic here).
Anyway, one of my absolute favourite subjects to shoot are people in their element. It always has been. I like the idea of a perfectly lit image of someone simply presenting to the camera whatever it is that they're most proud of or what it is that makes them really happy. For some, its the home they've built. For others, its their body of artistic work, or their possessions such as a car, or maybe a a sport that they're really skilled at. There are so many things that have such great visual potential. I love the idea of a single still image that incapsulates all of this.
So I'm always thinking about it in the back of my mind: who do I know that lives somewhere neat or does something cool? Today I thought, I'm going to just put it out there and see what comes back my way.
So if this sounds like you, let me know. Even if it something seemingly trivial, reach out to me and tell me about yourself. There's more hidden visual potential to many things than people often realize.
One of the best photos I've ever taken and one that everyone always praises (and won the Applied Arts award in 2014 I might add). Is a simple photo of an old couple sitting in their living room. You just never know.
Reach out. Let's shoot something beautiful.
Have a great one.
